I have decided to create a blog for the parents to see what we have been working with in the classroom. Here is what I have so far: shea3rd.blogspot.com 

Problem of Practice

I have decided to focus on the home/school communication as my problem of practice.  The students are doing so many amazing things in class that are not being shared with their families.  I can't rely on 9 year olds to tell their parents what is happening in school each day.  People are busy and sometimes families aren't all eating dinner together or setting enough time aside to talk about their days.  Time is an also an issue for teachers, adding something else to their plate seems unrealistic but the return is usually worth it.  I want to find something quick and easy to get the information to the families without having to spend a lot of time on it myself.  As a mom to a kindergartener I love every call, email or tweet from the teacher.  It gives me an opportunity to ask specific questions about his day in order to remind him and pull more information for a better conversation together.  I want to be able to do this for the students and families in my classroom.

Hello! My name is Kara! My husband and I have two sons, a dog and a leopard gecko.  I am a 3rd grade teacher, I just started my fifth year.  This summer I spent a lot of time playing outside with my kids, at the beach and swimming.  In my free time I like to go shopping, read and listen to podcasts.
